How does filler dissolving work?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme and prescription-only medicine that can break down hyaluronic acid. It may be considered for some complications or unwanted results from hyaluronic-acid filler, but dissolving is not a precise cosmetic reset.

Written and medically reviewed by Dr Karen Egan, experienced practising GP. Last reviewed 12 June 2026.

Why is assessment important?

Not every lump, asymmetry or change is caused by removable hyaluronic-acid filler. Examination, timing, symptoms and any product records help guide the safest plan.

Can natural hyaluronic acid be affected?

Hyaluronidase is not selective only for injected filler. Temporary changes in the surrounding tissue may occur and the final appearance can take time to assess.

Can filler be replaced immediately?

Not necessarily. The area may need time to settle, and further treatment should be based on reassessment rather than an automatic refill.
