Why can lean mass fall during weight loss?

When body weight falls, the change commonly includes both fat mass and lean tissue.

The proportion varies with age, starting health, energy intake, protein intake, physical activity, illness and the method used to estimate body composition.

How can muscle health be supported?

Adequate nutrition and resistance activity may help support muscle health when they are medically appropriate for the individual.

Advice should account for kidney health, physical limitations, frailty, pain, eating behaviour and other medical needs rather than relying on a universal protein or exercise target.

What does “Ozempic face” mean?

The phrase usually describes facial-volume changes associated with overall weight loss; it is not a distinct medical diagnosis.

Facial change can occur after weight loss by different methods and should not be used to stigmatise treatment or imply a unique drug effect.
